Butternut squash soup

This is a recipe from a well known restaurant in utah. My mother-in-law, Pat, loved it so much she ask the cook for the recipe. It is really good and so I will share it with you.

cook a butternut squash and remove the flesh. Saute a Medium Onion. After it is transparent add the squash and 3 cups of chicken broth. Bring to a simmer for 15 min. Blend in a blender. Put back in pot and add 1 1/2 cups half &half or cream, 1 tsp salt, pepper to taste, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp mace, and 4 TBS molasses.

Garnish with more mace.

FHE You can do hard things (Nephi)

WE CAN DO HARD THINGS!!
Nephi was a perfect example of doing hard things when he was asked to do them.
What are some of the hard things he had to do?

  1. leave his home (1 Nephi 2:2-4)
  2. go back for the plates (1 Nephi 3:4)
  3. Build a ship (1 Nephi 17:8)
How did he respond with each hard task?

  1. HE PRAYED FOR UNDERSTANDING "I did cry unto the Lord and He did... soften my heart" (1 Nephi 2:16)
  2. HE RESPONDED OBEDIENTLY "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded.." (1 Nephi 3:7)
  3. HE ACTED IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT HESITATION. "Lord, whither shall I go to make ore?" (1 Nephi 17:9)
When we are in a tuff spot Nephi has given us a good guide of how to respond.  Often we will need to do all three but other times our faith will be sufficient to just "act immediately".

Braden almost 2, Tanner 6 months

Unfortunately Seth was unable to make it. He had a deadline at school. Next time we'll get him:)

Halloween party 2012

We started with a pinata which was a big hit.

The big bag toss was also fun to play in:)

For the boys this was the best part. It's bowling with a pumpkin.
All night we had boys out there playing.

Pin the bow tie on Mr. Bones was a ton of fun.
We made spooky ginger bread houses. They were fun to make but did not hold up well cause apparently it's better to let the frosting dry before you decorate them. It  the future I will have two already made and have a girls house and a boys house that they can decorate as spooky as they like.
For this activity you need: different kinds of gummy worms, orange and blake frosting, black licorice, crunch bites that look like poop, plastic spiders and any thing else that looks spooky or grose ;)
We were two old people and Braden and Tanner were Winnie the Poo and Tiger too.
Unfortunately Tanner was too hot in his outfit and we had to take him out early.
 Fun times!!!

prepartions for our Halloween party

 I painted him:) Found HERE

Hung ghosts and put up spider webs.
Made pillows with spiders on them. Braden pulled off  the spiders right after I put them on:)

Witches hats. I should have used orange frosting. Instead I used a orange and black swirl but you only really see the black.
 Witches fingers. found HERE
I ran out of time to give them a really good face:) found HERE
We had a cheese dip and crackers...
and "dinner in a pumpkin" from Pat's recipe book:) It was wonderful!!!
